I first picked up a camera in high school, where I was introduced to black-and-white film photography. I spent a lot of lunch breaks in the darkroom. My first images were made with a pinhole camera built from an old shoebox and a piece of metal. One of those early shots was a portrait of a friend. I've lost it since, but it's still one of the best portraits I've ever taken.

I started my degree at the Queensland College of Art and Design, but the course was heavily focused on fine arts and that wasn't the direction I wanted to go. I transferred to the University of Southern Queensland to focus on commercial photography, and I'm currently finishing my Bachelor of Communication and Creative Industries.
Fashion photography was what drew me in initially, and it's still something I'm passionate about. But over time, I've found myself more drawn to just photographing people. I enjoy working with professional models, but there's something more fulfilling about working with someone new to being in front of a camera and watching their confidence grow through the shoot.

That's really where Relinquished Presence came from. While shooting with newer models and friends, I started noticing that the best images weren't coming from directed moments. They were coming from in between, when we were just talking. A few people said they were the first images from a shoot that actually looked like them. That stuck with me.

Relinquished Presence started as my final graduation project at USQ, but it's something I plan to take a lot further.
